Program Objective
This certificate program, organized in collaboration between İstanbul Aydın Üniversitesi STEM Education Application and Research Center and the Continuing Education Center, primarily aims to enable teachers to integrate Generative AI technologies into their classrooms not merely as technical tools but as pedagogical partners.
The program supports participants in transitioning from the traditional role of “information transmitter” to becoming “AI-supported learning experience designers.” It aims to equip teachers with the competence to manage all educational processes—ranging from lesson planning and assessment to original material production and personalized student feedback—more quickly, creatively, and inclusively with the support of artificial intelligence.
Importance and Rationale of the Program
Education is on the verge of a transformation far more radical than the shift from chalkboards to smart boards. Artificial intelligence is no longer a luxury; it is now the new infrastructure of education. The importance of this program lies in three key areas:
Personalized Learning Revolution:
While it is nearly impossible to create individualized content for every student in a class of 30 using traditional methods, AI makes it possible to design materials tailored to each student’s pace and interests. This program equips teachers with this “superpower.”
Teacher Productivity and Well-being:
Teachers spend nearly 40% of their time on administrative tasks, paperwork, and routine assessments. By delegating these tasks to AI, the program allows teachers to focus on their primary mission—engaging with and inspiring students.
Preparation for the Future:
Students are born into the AI era; educators cannot afford to fall behind. This program positions teachers not as consumers of technology but as leaders who manage and direct it.
Program Modules
Module 1: AI Literacy and Ethics for Educators (4 hours)
Teachers gain a pedagogical understanding of how AI technologies function. Topics include AI’s role in the classroom, student data privacy, academic integrity, plagiarism detection, and ethical use. Participants develop the mindset of an “AI-Supported Educator.”
Module 2: Pedagogical Prompt Engineering (8 hours)
Effective communication with AI is a critical 21st-century skill. Teachers learn advanced prompt-writing techniques that generate outcomes aligned with Bloom’s Taxonomy, create spiral lesson plans, and enable Socratic questioning. Participants gain the ability to guide AI models like an expert department head.
Module 3: Creative Material Design and Content Production (12 hours)
Teachers learn to use AI tools to instantly create worksheets, concept maps, fill-in-the-blank activities, original visuals, and interactive presentations. The material development process is reduced from hours to minutes.
Module 4: Process-Oriented Assessment and Evaluation (8 hours)
Participants learn to develop multiple-choice, open-ended, and scenario-based question banks and analytical rubrics. They also gain the ability to provide personalized, constructive feedback by analyzing student work with AI.
Module 5: Subject-Specific AI Assistants (Custom GPTs) (8 hours)
In this capstone module, teachers design their own virtual educational assistants without coding. For example, a math teacher can create a “Geometry Solution Assistant,” or a literature teacher can build a “Novel Analysis Bot.” The use of AI as a project partner for TÜBİTAK and EU projects is also demonstrated.
